Are There Eco-Friendly Ways to Clean the Tile Grout?

Tile provides a durable and aesthetic surface to many rooms in a home just like kitchen countertops and floors and bathroom walls and floors. However, over time, it is natural to see them become dirty, dull, and moldy. To address these issues and any negative effects on your health, you need to clean the tiles, especially the tile grout. The best way to clean grout is to use the right cleaning solutions. Some homeowners prefer those that are eco-friendly and safe to use.

Harsh chemicals, including bleach, should not be used as these can affect the durability and look of the tile and grout. Grout cleaning can be challenging but it is needed to keep these areas clean and harm-free for the family

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions for Your Tile Grout

1. Vinegar

A well-known green cleaner, vinegar is a very popular option. Vinegar contains an acid that kills bacteria and breaks down gunk. To use this as a grout cleaner, you need to mix white distilled vinegar and water in equal parts in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture in the tile grout then leave it for several minutes as it does its job. After that, use a brush with a soft bristle to clean the areas affected.
Note that if you have natural stone tiles, you cannot use this mixture as it can ruin the finish of the natural stone.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide

This is also an eco-friendly cleaning solution as it contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Compared to bleach, hydrogen peroxide is much safer. It can disinfect the areas too, killing viruses. Just spray this onto the tile grout then gently brush the areas.

3. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the best grout cleaner options. With only a teaspoon of tea tree oil mixed into a cup of water, spray it on the tile grout then use a damp cloth to clean the area.

4. Mixture of an all-natural grout cleaner

Another option to clean your tile grout is to use a mixture of baking soda (1/2 cup) and hydrogen peroxide (1/4 cup) in a squeeze bottle. Mix until it has a paste-like consistency. Then, put parts in the areas that you are cleaning. Leave them for around 10 minutes before gently brushing the area. Wipe them clean and enjoy the results.
Note that you should wear rubber gloves to protect you whether you have sensitive skin or not.
